From his highly acclaimed photo book on UFO Investigators in Port Talbot to his exploration of Druids in the West or Elvis Tribute Artists in Wales – his long-term projects examine the beliefs and desires that bring these people together. Roo’s ability to build trust and understanding within communities is evident in his portraits, which are full of empathy, emotion and integrity.
Roo’s portraits have been exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery as finalists in the Taylor Wessing Prize 2023 and 2024. Roo’s most recent publication Port Talbot UFO Investigation Club was shot over a period of two years – photographing the Welsh town of Port Talbot which according to actor Michael Sheen, has an ‘extremely high number of UFO sightings’. Roo used this notion as a starting point to explore the lives of the people, the landscape and the folklore of this brave and wonderful town.
